News from the President

Good Evening!  April is winding down and so is the 2009-10 school year.  There are still many opportunities to have fun and support Leopold.

The annual Leopold Garage Sale is this Saturday, May 1st from 8:00 am12:00 noon in the cafeteria.  Your generous donations are what make this sale a success year after year.  Bring your items to school tomorrow, Friday, April 30th anytime between 1:00 and 7:00 pm.  You do not need to price individual items nor do you need to unload your boxes and bags…but we won't stop you if you'd like to help us set up!   No donation is too small – and all proceed are benefit our kids at Leopold.  A tax receipt for your donation is available – just ask any one of the volunteers setting up for the sale.  Return on Saturday, May 1st to search for hidden treasures.

After shopping at the garage sale, bring your kids and their bikes to the Bike Rodeo from 12:00 – 2:00 pm on May 1st.  This fun event is sponsored by the PFO along with Budget Bicycle Center and the Madison Department of Transportation.  Lunch will be served to participating kids and there will be plenty of good fun and cool prizes to win, including 2 bikes!  Free bike inspections and helmet fittings will be available and volunteers will help kids navigate through a safety course.  The bike rodeo will be held rain or shine – look for us in front of the building in the circle drive or in the gym if it is raining.  See you there!

Next week is Staff Appreciation Week at Leopold.  Parents will treat staff to good food, lively conversation and a well-deserved break from their routine during lunch on Tuesday, May 4th.  Thank you to everyone who responded to the call for help.  If you signed up to bring food, please bring it to school at or before 10:00 am on Tuesday to allow time to set up.  Remember to either use disposable containers or mark your items with your child's name and room so volunteers can return items to your child on Tuesday.  Unmarked items will be on a table in the lobby after school.  Staff will also enjoy a continental breakfast on Friday morning.  Moms don't have all the fun – the dads will serve goodies to staff on Friday.  Thank you to all Leopold staff who do what you do every day for our children!

Next week also provides you with an opportunity for dinner out and dinner in, all the while supporting Leopold with your purchases.

-          Tuesday, May 4th is Leopold Night at Noodles and Co, 2981 Triverton Pike Drive in Fitchburg.  From 4 – 8 pm 25% of your purchase at Noodles is returned to Leopold PFO to help support our school.  Check out their online menu (www.noodles.com) and make plans to eat out on Tuesday.

-          On Thursday, May 6th, pick up dinner at MyMenu on McKee Road next to Super Target and have a night out in your own dining room.  Browse through their entire product line on their website (www.mymenu.com).  Mention Leopold at check out and 10% of your purchase is donated to Leopold PFO.

That's it for now.  I need to dig through the toy box while the kids are sleeping…shhh…they'll never miss the cars from inside the Cheerios box.  If they do I'll bring them to the garage sale, coins in hand, and they can buy them back on Saturday.  Have a great weekend and Happy May Day!

News from the President

Happy Earth Day Eve!  How will you celebrate?  I'm hoping to transplant a volunteer maple seedling growing near some flowers…I wonder how tall it will be by the time my kids graduate high school.  Below are a few newsworthy items to share electronically – enjoy!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Fun Fest 2010 a fun and festive time for our kids.  We greatly appreciate every minute people spent working before, during and after the event.   The games are back in storage and we're already looking forward to Fun Fest 2011.  If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please send them to me (miltonmoose@charter.net). Organizers are compiling a "things to remember" list to pull out in a few months and are always interested in hearing from you.

The annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon takes place on Tuesday, May 4th.  The PFO hosts this luncheon each year to show Leopold staff how much we appreciate what they do for our children.  Fliers were sent home in backpacks last week requesting volunteers to provide food, help during the luncheon or make a monetary contribution.  We ask that these be returned by this Friday, April 23rd so organizers can finalize luncheon details.  If you have questions please contact Chris Hammer at 271-0621 or pcnlhammer@sbcglobal.net or Deanna Jaworski at 270-1598 or drjaworski@charter.net.  Thanks for helping!

The annual Leopold Garage Sale is Saturday, May 1st from 8:00 am12:00 noon in the cafeteriaDonations can be brought to school on Friday, April 30th from 1:00 – 7:00 pm.  Take a few minutes on this rainy weekend to sort through the toy box.  Pull out that stack of CDs from the 1980s that are gathering dust in a box.  Thin out your collection of college sweatshirts and add them to my pile.  After you donate your stuff, come back on Saturday and shop 'til you drop.  All proceeds are divided among the six grades at Leopold and directly benefit our kids.  If you are interested in helping on Friday and/or Saturday please contact me at miltonmoose@charter.net.  What a great way to celebrate Earth Day!

Ride your bike to the garage sale and stay for the Leopold Bike Rodeo, also on May 1st from 12 – 2pm.  This event will take place rain or shineLunch is provided to participating kids and all can receive a free bike inspection and helmet fitting.  The PFO is hosting this event with support from Budget Bicycle Center and the Madison Department of Transportation.  Kids can maneuver a safety course and sign up to win fabulous prizes including one of two bikes and many cool accessories.  Kids can participate even if they don't have a bike as our supporters will provide bikes for use during the event.  We're looking for a few more volunteers so please contact Jess Lathrop at jesslathrop@uwalumni.com if you're available. The walking school bus is parked on Saturday so ride on over to the rodeo!

Leopold Noodles Night is on Tuesday, May 4th from 5-9pm at the Triverton Pike Drive location in Fitchburg.  MyMenu night is Thursday, May 6th.  Shop at Fair Indigo at Hilldale on Saturday, May 8th and 50% of your purchase comes back to Leopold.

Don't forget to donate your Coke Rewards points to Leopold.  http://content.4at5.net/email_domains/coa/61170/SpritePlaygroundFlyer_5.pdf

The following information was provided to me to share with families:

News

Now that we have all emerged from the "Spring Break is over" blues, it is time to look ahead to the final 9 weeks of the school year.  The calendar is filled with PFO events and opportunities in the next month.

The April PFO Meeting is this Tuesday, April 13th at 7:00pm.  Our guest speaker is Erik Kass, MMSD Assistant Superintendent for Business Services.  He will review with us the 2010-11 budget issues, along with where we are in the process and what will be happening over the next 2 months.  Topics covered may include the tax impacts, loss in funding from the State of Wisconsin, and programs on the list for reductions.  You can read more about the proposed 2010-11 District budget at http://drupal.madison.k12.wi.us/node/6001

In case your kids haven't reminded you, Fun Fest is this Saturday, April 17th from 12:00 noon3:00 pmIf you have not yet volunteered to help, please contact Lisa (Shebesta@charter.net).  Thank you to those who said "YES" when called by your child's class rep parent volunteer.  A reminder will come home later this week so you know where to go and when.  Have you purchased food/game and raffle tickets yet?  You can still send your order and payment (cash or check payable to "Leopold PFO") to school very early this week.  Tickets will come home via backpack by April 15th so don't delay.  You can also purchase tickets at the door on Saturday.  Good food, fun for kids and great raffle prizes – once again it's shaping up to be a great event.  See you there!

I can feel it in the air – garage sale season is almost here!  Leopold will hold its annual garage sale on Saturday, May 1st from 8:00 am12:00 noon in the cafeteria.  As you sort through all the winter gear, clean out closets and uncover toys that no one wants anymore, bag them up and bring them to school on Friday, April 30thIf you can help with set up on Friday or during the sale on Saturday, please contact me (miltonmoose@charter.net).  If your neighborhood is having a sale the weekend of May 1st, consider posting a sign at the end of your driveway directing people to our sale.  All proceeds benefit Leopold kids so stop by and shop.  You never know what treasures you might find.

Saturday, May 1st is a busy day at Leopold.  There will be a Bike Rodeo (rain or shine!) from 12:00 noon2:00 pm.  Bike and helmet inspections, lunch, prizes…more information will come home soon.  Save the date and plan to bike to school on Saturday, May 1st!

Staff appreciation week is May 3 – 7 and planning is underway.  In the next couple of weeks you will have the opportunity to help make this a special event for the great staff at Leopold.  Watch your kids' backpacks for more details.

Leopold Noodles night is Tuesday, May 4 (2981 Triverton Pike Drive, Fitchburg) – mention Leopold when placing your order and 25% of the proceeds will be donated to Leopold PFO

Whew…spring is a busy time at Leopold.  Thank you to everyone for helping make these events a success.  Remember…everything we do is for our kids and our school.
