News from the President

Happy Earth Day Eve!  How will you celebrate?  I'm hoping to transplant a volunteer maple seedling growing near some flowers…I wonder how tall it will be by the time my kids graduate high school.  Below are a few newsworthy items to share electronically – enjoy!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Fun Fest 2010 a fun and festive time for our kids.  We greatly appreciate every minute people spent working before, during and after the event.   The games are back in storage and we're already looking forward to Fun Fest 2011.  If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please send them to me (miltonmoose@charter.net). Organizers are compiling a "things to remember" list to pull out in a few months and are always interested in hearing from you.

The annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon takes place on Tuesday, May 4th.  The PFO hosts this luncheon each year to show Leopold staff how much we appreciate what they do for our children.  Fliers were sent home in backpacks last week requesting volunteers to provide food, help during the luncheon or make a monetary contribution.  We ask that these be returned by this Friday, April 23rd so organizers can finalize luncheon details.  If you have questions please contact Chris Hammer at 271-0621 or pcnlhammer@sbcglobal.net or Deanna Jaworski at 270-1598 or drjaworski@charter.net.  Thanks for helping!

The annual Leopold Garage Sale is Saturday, May 1st from 8:00 am12:00 noon in the cafeteriaDonations can be brought to school on Friday, April 30th from 1:00 – 7:00 pm.  Take a few minutes on this rainy weekend to sort through the toy box.  Pull out that stack of CDs from the 1980s that are gathering dust in a box.  Thin out your collection of college sweatshirts and add them to my pile.  After you donate your stuff, come back on Saturday and shop 'til you drop.  All proceeds are divided among the six grades at Leopold and directly benefit our kids.  If you are interested in helping on Friday and/or Saturday please contact me at miltonmoose@charter.net.  What a great way to celebrate Earth Day!

Ride your bike to the garage sale and stay for the Leopold Bike Rodeo, also on May 1st from 12 – 2pm.  This event will take place rain or shineLunch is provided to participating kids and all can receive a free bike inspection and helmet fitting.  The PFO is hosting this event with support from Budget Bicycle Center and the Madison Department of Transportation.  Kids can maneuver a safety course and sign up to win fabulous prizes including one of two bikes and many cool accessories.  Kids can participate even if they don't have a bike as our supporters will provide bikes for use during the event.  We're looking for a few more volunteers so please contact Jess Lathrop at jesslathrop@uwalumni.com if you're available. The walking school bus is parked on Saturday so ride on over to the rodeo!

Leopold Noodles Night is on Tuesday, May 4th from 5-9pm at the Triverton Pike Drive location in Fitchburg.  MyMenu night is Thursday, May 6th.  Shop at Fair Indigo at Hilldale on Saturday, May 8th and 50% of your purchase comes back to Leopold.

The following information was provided to me to share with families:

Looking for something to do with the kids this Sunday, April 25th?  Consider the Fitchburg Fast & Furious Criterium.  The race takes place near the Fitchburg Farmer's Market location at the Agora Pavilion.  A link to the race flier is provided http://www.madcityvelo.com/sites/default/files/FFF_FLYER.pdf  .  Registration is from 9:30 – 10:30 am with three separate races for kids ages 9 and under.

The UW Vet School is holding their second annual open house on Sunday, April 25th.  Take a behind-the-scenes look at the Vet School and find out about their services.  Kids can bring a stuffed animal in for x-rays and surgeons can suture or bandage any "boo boos".  More info is available at the following link.  http://www.vetmed.wisc.edu/articles/0/5/1140

That's all for tonight but stay tuned…there's always something happening at Leopold!
