News from the Prez

Good Evening.  Are you ready for some more snow shoveling?  We may get
another chance to dig out in the next couple of days.  I'm
curious…what if Jimmy the Ground Hog can't
even get out of his hole to look for a shadow?  Does winter continue
or is spring around the corner?  I suppose he has staff on call
waiting to clear a path for him…hmmm…will they come to my house and
dig out the driveway?  I suppose not…guess I better plan ahead so I
don't miss any of the events happening this week.

A big thank you goes out to everyone who made last Friday's movie
night a success.  We had a nice crowd and everyone seemed to have a
fun time.  If you have any movie night suggestions, feel free to send
me an email
and I'll share with the planning group.  Right now we do not have
another one on the calendar, but that could change if there is
interest.

Our Box Tops collection contest continues, with the first deadline
happening tomorrow, January 31.  We will tally the clippings and award
a pizza party to 3 winning classrooms (one each in grades K-1, 2-3 and
4-5) for the most Box Tops collected through 1/31/2011.  If you are
sending Box Tops to school with your child tomorrow, make sure the
collection sheets or container is clearly labeled with your child's
and teacher's name so the correct classroom is credited.  The second
collection period runs from February 1 – April 30 so don't stop
clipping.  Remember, every collection sheet is worth $2.50 to our
school.  Thanks for clipping!

The Leopold Book Fair
begins Monday with the kids' preview during the school day.  Families
are invited to shop the book fair in the Leopold LMC on Tuesday and
Wednesday, February 1-2, from 8am – 7pm and on Thursday morning,
February 3 until about 10am.  See you at the fair!

Tuesday is also Leopold Chuck E Cheese night.  The PFO has once again
teamed up with Chuck E Cheese at 438 Grand Canyon Drive in Madison to
bring a night of food, fun and fundraising to the Leopold community.
All purchases made from 3:00 – 9:00 pm will bring a 15% donation back
to Leopold.    A sticker worth free tokens will come home with (or
on!) your child on Tuesday.  You can also visit the Chuck E Cheese
website to find some great coupons
http://www.chuckecheese.com/coupons/everyday-coupons.php

The weather sounds like it could get a bit messy so please take care
when planning your evening on Tuesday.  If there are any changes to
this schedule we will do our best to get word out via email and on the
PFO Blog (www.leopoldPFO.blogspot.com
<http://www.leopoldpfo.blogspot.com/>).

Have a great week – see you at Book Fair!

News from the Prez

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable winter break.  Snow and cold weather are fun…for the first couple of days…and then I get as restless as kids on a 2-week break from their school routine.  I now have my eye on the extra minute of light we get each day after the Winter Solstice.  Thank you Ms. Kaether for sharing your positive outlook on a frigid January afternoon!

With the increase in daylight comes many volunteer opportunities and Leopold.  If you are interested or able to help or would like to hear more about the tasks, please get in touch with the contact person listed below.  As always, thank you for supporting our school.

Fruit cutters are needed this Thursday, January 13 and next Friday, January 21Contact Lisa Shebesta (Shebesta@charter.net) if you can help cut kiwi and oranges for our kids' morning snack.

Dental screenings are scheduled for January 18 – 20 and the Ronald McDonald Dental Van will be at Leopold from January 24 – February 11.  Volunteers are needed to help shuttle kids to and from the initial screenings and dental visits when the van arrives.  Contact Lore Mayr (lorelynmayr@yahoo.com) with your availability and contact information if you can help.

Coming soon to a cafeteria near you – its Leopold Movie Night!  Planning is underway for the event scheduled for Friday, January 28.  Volunteers are needed from 5:30 – 8:30 pm to serve popcorn and water, clean up as well as general "crowd control".  More information on the event will come out soon.  For now, mark your calendars for 1/28 and contact Lore Mayr (lorelynmayr@yahoo.com) if you want to help while attending with your kids.

It's hard to believe but the Leopold Book Fair is coming up fast!  I always think of this as a true sign that Spring is right around the corner.  This year's fair is being held in the LMC, January 31 - February 3.  We're looking for people able to work in 2 hour shifts:

    Monday, January 31 - from 8am-1pm

    Tuesday, February 1 - from 8am-7pm

    Wednesday, February 2 - from 8am-7pm

Thursday, February 3 - 1 volunteer after 10:30 to help with take down/cleanup

Book Fair is one of my favorite events of the year – the kids find new books for home and can purchase a book for their classroom.  It's also the perfect way to meet and greet Leopold students, parents and staff.  Contact Jolen Neumann (jmneumann@gmail.com) if you are available and whether you would like to work more than one day.

Lori Zinck, Leopold school nurse, would like to involve parents in the Fresh Fruit and Veggie Program (FFVP) Committee.  Several parents indicated an interest in a survey last year but responses were anonymous.  Please contact Ms. Zinck (lzinck@madison.k12.wi.us) if you would like to participate or know more.

Have a great week – keep clipping and shopping – see you at school!
