Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable winter break. Snow and cold weather are fun…for the first couple of days…and then I get as restless as kids on a 2-week break from their school routine. I now have my eye on the extra minute of light we get each day after the Winter Solstice. Thank you Ms. Kaether for sharing your positive outlook on a frigid January afternoon!
With the increase in daylight comes many volunteer opportunities and Leopold. If you are interested or able to help or would like to hear more about the tasks, please get in touch with the contact person listed below. As always, thank you for supporting our school.
Fruit cutters are needed this Thursday, January 13 and next Friday, January 21. Contact Lisa Shebesta (Shebesta@charter.net) if you can help cut kiwi and oranges for our kids' morning snack.
Dental screenings are scheduled for January 18 – 20 and the Ronald McDonald Dental Van will be at Leopold from January 24 – February 11. Volunteers are needed to help shuttle kids to and from the initial screenings and dental visits when the van arrives. Contact Lore Mayr (lorelynmayr@yahoo.com) with your availability and contact information if you can help.
Coming soon to a cafeteria near you – its Leopold Movie Night! Planning is underway for the event scheduled for Friday, January 28. Volunteers are needed from 5:30 – 8:30 pm to serve popcorn and water, clean up as well as general "crowd control". More information on the event will come out soon. For now, mark your calendars for 1/28 and contact Lore Mayr (lorelynmayr@yahoo.com) if you want to help while attending with your kids.
It's hard to believe but the Leopold Book Fair is coming up fast! I always think of this as a true sign that Spring is right around the corner. This year's fair is being held in the LMC, January 31 - February 3. We're looking for people able to work in 2 hour shifts:
Monday, January 31 - from 8am-1pm
Tuesday, February 1 - from 8am-7pm
Wednesday, February 2 - from 8am-7pm
Thursday, February 3 - 1 volunteer after 10:30 to help with take down/cleanup
Book Fair is one of my favorite events of the year – the kids find new books for home and can purchase a book for their classroom. It's also the perfect way to meet and greet Leopold students, parents and staff. Contact Jolen Neumann (jmneumann@gmail.com) if you are available and whether you would like to work more than one day.
Lori Zinck, Leopold school nurse, would like to involve parents in the Fresh Fruit and Veggie Program (FFVP) Committee. Several parents indicated an interest in a survey last year but responses were anonymous. Please contact Ms. Zinck (lzinck@madison.k12.wi.us) if you would like to participate or know more.
Have a great week – keep clipping and shopping – see you at school!
