Newz from the Prez

Good Morning Leopold Families!  The weather may be wet and gloomy for the next day or two but the activity calendar more than makes up for the dreary forecast.  Our busiest day is Tuesday, and thankfully the sun will return to help motivate us.  Here goes…

Monday, April 4 the Madison school district celebrates its Distinguished Service Award Winners and Nominees at the 27th annual MMSD Recognition Awards ceremony.  We are excited to note that Leopold has 2 honorees this year.  Lori Zinck is one of two recipients for the Support Personnel award and Kathryn Hill receives the District Wide Citizen award.  Congratulations to both of you!  The awards ceremony will be held at 7pm in the La Follette School auditorium.  The ceremony will be videotaped for telecast on MMSD-TV Cable Channels 96/993 and Web streaming at www.mmsd.tv. You can read more about the awards and past recipients at http://oldweb.madison.k12.wi.us/mmsdtv/dsa/index.html.  Lori will also speak at our April PFO meeting on Tuesday, April 12 when she shares her research on Leopold's Fresh Fruit and Veggie program.  Mark your calendars!

Tuesday, April 5 is Election Day and as in the past we are hosting an Election Day Bake Sale as we welcome members of the Leopold neighborhood to the polls.  Lisa Shebesta is coordinating this event and shares these words with us:

Please contact Lisa Shebesta at shebesta@charter.net or 608 270 2233 to volunteer your timeThe drop off for baked goods will be in the office on Monday afternoon or at the table we will set up in the lobby on Tuesday morning.  Please label what your item is as it's hard to sell mystery items.  Ideally your items will be packaged into individual portions.  Label containers you want returned with your name and child's teacher.  Finally, if you bake as well as Lisa feel free donate money which will be used to purchase baked goods which also sell very well.  Thanks for supporting your school's PFO.

Tuesday, April 5 is also Leopold Elementary Noodles Night.  From 4:00 – 8:00 pm, 25% of sales at Noodles & Company (http://www.noodles.com/) 2981 Triverton Pike Drive in Fitchburg will be returned to Leopold as a donation.  Hopefully you found the goldenrod flyer at the bottom of your child's backpack.  Bring it with you to Noodles or mention Leopold to make sure your purchase counts towards this event.  Bon appetite!

Attention 5th grade parents – the deadline to sponsor our yearbook has been extended to April 6.  Sponsorship forms are now available on the PFO blog at http://leopoldpfo.blogspot.com/p/documents.html

Have you cast your vote for the Vilas Zoo's Name the Lion contest?  As of this morning the name Leo Pold has 40% of the votes.  https://www.vilaszoo.org/new/index.php?category_id=5002.

There are many more activities happening in the upcoming weeks.  Keep an eye out for email updates, backpack flyers and the PFO Blog (http://www.leopoldpfo.blogspot.com/) for up-to-the minute information.  An abbreviated schedule is included below:
