News from the Prez

TGIF!  Looks like we're in for our first snowfall of the winter season.  You may remember that December 9th has been a snow day the past two years.  I'm not sure that's in the forecast but I hope everyone is ready with shovels in hand.  What a great family project…at least it doesn't involve glitter!

Have you read or heard about the new Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery opening on the UW Campus?  I received a note earlier this week about the grand opening events that start today and run through December 11th.  There are free tours, science displays, demonstrations and activities happening tomorrow including the Wonders of Physics at 10am and 2pm and the Medical Magician at 12 and 4pm.  A complete list of events and more can be found at this link.  http://discovery.wisc.edu/home/discovery/events/grand-opening-events/  Take a peek at the 5pm offering on Wednesday December 8th…you may just see a name or two you recognize

Speaking of recognition (and science), my sources also told me we should all tune in to Channel 3 news at 6pm on Monday, December 6th.  The Channel 3 Topnotch Teacher film crew was at Leopold a couple weeks ago and the product of their activity is scheduled to air at 6pm on Monday and again during the morning show on Tuesday.  I don't want to spoil the surprise…tune in and watch.  If you miss the news check their website at http://www.channel3000.com/topnotchteachers/index.html.

Teacher Treat Day - Believe it or not the last day of school before Winter Break is quickly coming upon us.  As a way to say thank you to our Leopold Staff for making it up to this point in the year and to send them off to Winter Break with "visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads", we'd like to provide some tasty treats for them to enjoy throughout the school day in the Teacher's Lounge on Friday, December 17th.  If you are able to help out with this day by providing some wonderful treats, please contact Jolen Neumann jmneumann@gmail.com with the item(s) you can bring.  Any and all treats are welcome.  Please drop them off in the Teacher's Lounge downstairs before school starts on the 17th, or in the main office.  If you need ideas, here are some of the things we've served up in the past:

Veggies and dip

Salsa and chips

Sub sandwiches

Cookies

Candy

Cake

Crackers and cheese

Hot cheese dip

Thanks to all of you for making our teachers last day before break a little brighter. :)

That's it for now.  Have a great weekend, and don't forget to make your online shopping work for Leopold.

Helping Leopold - one online purchase at a time

Happy Thanksgiving!  Have you peeled your potatoes
yet?  Me neither…but the turkey is ready for the oven and Grandma is
bringing the pie.  As you page through the pile of store flyers to plan
your holiday shopping, take a minute to consider these three ways your purchases
can support Leopold students, staff and programs.

www.GoodSearch.com <http://www.goodsearch.com/>
– GoodShop is an online shopping mall
which donates up to 30 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause (Leopold
Elementary!)  Hundreds of great stores including Target, Gap, Best Buy, ToysRUs,
and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with GoodShop and every time you place an
order, you'll be supporting Leopold kids.  Visit the GoodShop site at
http://www.goodsearch.com/goodshop.aspx.
Where it asks "Who do you shop for" type Leopold Elementary.  You
can browse a list of categories, search for an item or locate a store by name.
An even easier option is to download the GoodSearch – Leopold Elementary
School toolbar.  Leopold will earn money every time you shop
and search online - even if you forget to go to GoodShop or GoodSearch
first!  Add
the Leopold Elementary
School toolbar at
http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/leopold-elementary-school.
Its quick, its easy, and its all for a good cause – our kids!

Are you an Amazon.com shopping
junkie?  I know a few people who should own stock in the
company (you know who you are…).  If your holiday shopping revolves
around Amazon, make sure you start every online shopping trip from
www.leopoldPFO.blogspot.com <http://www.leopoldpfo.blogspot.com/> (you
can get there by clicking the paw print on the Leopold GoodSearch toolbar –
hint hint).  The Leopold PFO is part of the Amazon Affiliates program and
each purchase you make when you start your Amazon session from our site will
generate a donation to us.  There's no logon necessary – just click
and shop.  It's a good thing.

Shopping the BoxTops
Marketplace at www.boxtops4education.com <http://www.boxtops4education.com/>
is another way to make your online purchases work for our school.  Join Box
Tops and identify Leopold as your school so the donations can pile up in the
school account.  A recent change now has you earning electronic box tops
(eBoxTops) for every purchase.  Each eBoxTop is worth 10 cents just like
the ones you clip off Cheerios, Pillsbury rolls, ZipLock bags, etc (I'm
just full of hints tonight…must be the weather).  Click on any
store's logo at the Box Tops Marketplace, make a purchase on their website as
you normally would, and eBoxTops will be credited to Leopold's earnings.  We
can earn up to 15 eBoxTops for every $10 you spend.  When you do this, you'll
become a Box Tops Online Power Earner.  As an Online Power Earner, you
will receive 10 Bonus Box Tops for every 100 eBoxTops you earn.  Box
Tops…they're
not just for clipping anymore.

So…as you sit down at the computer with your shopping
list and a 2nd piece of pumpkin pie, remember to make every purchase
work for you to generate support for our kids.  As always, thank you for
helping!  Have a great Thanksgiving weekend and we'll see you at
school!

News You Can Use

Happy Wednesday!

We had a good turn out at the November PFO meeting last week.  Thanks again to Dawn Crim for sharing details of the MMSD Parent Council and Mary Conner and Troy Dassler for sharing with us more about school library activities and kids' GMail accounts.  It also wouldn't be a PFO meeting without words of wisdom from our principal Mr. Burkholder.  If you missed the meeting, take a minute to read the minutes (thanks Kim and Cesar!)  English - http://leopoldweb.madison.k12.wi.us/files/leopold/Leopold%20PFO%20Meeting%20Minutes%2011.10.doc

Spanish - http://leopoldweb.madison.k12.wi.us/files/leopold/Leopold_PFO_Meeting_Minutes%20Spanish%2011.10.doc

Next Tuesday, November 23rd, our kids will enjoy fresh kiwi for their Fruit/Veggie snack.  We are in need of a couple more people who can help cut fruit.  You would arrive between 8-8:30 am and spend about an hour in the cafeteria preparing fruit for the kids.  If you are available, contact Lisa Shebesta at Shebesta@charter.net.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Speaking of the Fruit and Veggie snack, did your child tell you about the yummy mango salsa they had on November 2nd?  Students were treated with fresh mango salsa and multigrain tortilla chips during snack time.  The salsa was provided through Leopold's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grant.  The PFO teamed up with Trader Joe's to provide 75 bags of healthy multigrain tortilla chips for the 700+ students at Leopold.  Next time you're shopping at Trader Joe's, please let them know how much you appreciate their donation.  Thanks also to Lori Zinck, Leopold's School Nurse, for coordinating this wonderful program.

Do you remember when there were railroad tracks running along the tree line by the Leopold parking lot?  The tracks are gone and a new bike path is under construction.  The path will begin at the east line of the UW Arboretum and continue northeast to Greenway View.  The current project includes a path through Knollwood Park connecting to West View Lane and connecting path linking to the Capital City Trail to the south.  At Greenway View the main path will connect to Luann Lane via a path through Leopold Park.  A public hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, November 18th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm in the Leopold cafeteria where City of Madison Traffic Engineering will present preliminary lighting plans.  A question/answer time will follow.

In the next few days we'll send out more details on the Box Tops collection contest as well as all the ways you can clip, shop and search the internet to support Leopold.  Have a great week!

News from the prez.

Good Morning!  Did you remember to turn your clocks back
one hour last night?  I for one enjoyed the extra hour of sleep.
Remember when the fall time change meant you got to stay up an extra hour on
Saturday night?  Once again I prove my kids correct – I am getting
old.  Here are a few things happening next week in and around school.
I wrote them down so I wouldn't forget to share…

Monday, 11/8 – Did
our last Noodles Night leave you wanting more?  You're in luck.
One of our sister schools – Cherokee Middle
School – is having their own Noodles
Night on Monday, November 8th from 4 – 8pm.
Many of our Leopold families are past, present and/or future Cherokee families.
If you find yourself craving pasta, treat yourself at Noodles on Triverton
Pike Drive in Fitchburg and help
support one of our middle schools at the same time.  No flyer is needed…you
only need to mention their fundraiser.

Tuesday, 11/9 – November PFO meeting from 7 – 8pm in the Leopold
LMC.  Mary Conner, Leopold's Librarian will talk to
us about how the library supports our children's learning experiences and
share ways families can support the library.  Troy Dassler will return to
give us more information about student GMail accounts and the technology plan.
We'll also share information about our upcoming Box Tops contest at
school and so much more.  See you there!

Wednesday, 11/10 – Vision screening takes place at school each
fall.  The PFO could use a few more volunteers to help from 10:00am –
12:15 pm.  If you are available,
please contact Lorelyn Mayr (lorelynmayr@yahoo.com)

Thursday,
11/11 – Parent/Teacher conferences means no school for the kids.  Contact your
teacher if you can't remember your scheduled time or if plans have
changed and you need to reschedule.

Friday, 11/12 – TGIF
– school is open on Friday
so don't let the kids fool you.  They DO need to wake up early and
get ready for school today!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.  See you on Tuesday at
school!

The following is sent on behalf of Mr. Burkholder:

Families of Leopold School,

You should be aware of an upcoming interruption in emails received by staff.

The Madison School District is making a major change in its email system - moving from one provider to another.  As a result, from 5:00 p.m. on Friday October 1 until Monday morning October 4, all school and district staff members will not have access to their received emails.  If all things technical go well, staff members will have access on October 4 to all emails sent in that "down" period as well as all subsequent emails.

Two other points:

1. All email addresses for school and district staff members will remain the same.

2. All emails that you send to staff members - no matter when they are sent - will be received.

We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.

See you tomorrow at school!

Newz from the prez

Happy Monday Eve – are you ready for the first full week of school for 2010-11?

Our first PFO meeting of the 2010-11 school year is Tuesday, September 14th at7pm in the Leopold Library.  Free childcare and Spanish translation are available.  Acompáñenos a la junta de septiembre del PFO, martes 14 de septiembre – 7:00 PM en la bibliotecaTraducción al español y cuidado de niños gratis.  Please join us to learn more about the PFO events and activities for the year.  We will hear from Leopold's principal Mr. Burkholder and our new Assistant Principal Ms. Potter.  Mr. Troy Dassler will talk to us about the exciting new Leopold Science Lab…look for the big green frog hanging on the wall on your way to the LMC on Tuesday and take a peek in the window.  Hope to see you there!

Thank you to everyone who visited the Fitchburg Dairy Queen last Tuesday as part of Leopold Night.  Our first restaurant event of the year was a great success, generating a $310 donation from Dairy Queen to the PFO for Leopold.  Thank you for participating and we look forward to our October Leopold Night at Noodles & Company on Tuesday, October 5th.

Earlier this month, copies of the 2009-10 edition of The Write Stuff, wasdistributed to Leopold students.  The Write Stuff is a compilation of poems and stories written by Leopold students during the 2009-10 school year.  If your family did not receive a copy and would like one, extras are available in the office.  Thank you to all of the students and teachers who submitted material for the 2009-10 edition, and the parents who worked on the literary magazine over the summer.  Special thanks to parents Mary Treleven and Kristi Buscemi for spearheading this effort.

Welcome Back!

Good Evening!  Have you made it through the first school night routine yet?  The excitement is building for the first day of school so bedtime at our house was a bit too energetic…nothing that a few extra hours of gym class can't cure!  As you get ready to send kids off for to school, here are some items to ponder.

The first two days of school are early release days for the elementary schools.  Leopold start and dismissal times for September 1 & 2 are 7:45am to 1:00 pmLink to the entire 2010-11 district calendarhttp://www.madison.k12.wi.us/node/5022  en Español http://www.madison.k12.wi.us/files/2010-11%20School%20Calendar-Weds%20Release%20Sp.doc

A Volunteer Opportunity:  One of the most fun opportunities you will find to help out your school – kindergarten helpers!  We need parents willing to come to school for the Kindergarten lunch period the first and second week of school.  You walk around the cafeteria and work with the Kindergartners who need help learning how to open the packaging the hot lunches come in and reminding them to eat because it's a short lunch period.  You arrive by 11:35 and you're done in 30 minutes.  If you cannot make lunch period but are available before or after school, you can walk with kindergarteners from the bus drop off area to the kinder playground in the morning and from classrooms at the end of the day back to busses, outside to meet their pickup person or to After School in the cafeteria.  If you are available please email Lisa Shebesta at shebesta@charter.net and let her know what days you can come.  Any and all help is welcome – let Lisa know even if you think you might be able to show up.  It's informal so she just needs to have a rough idea how many volunteers to look for those days.

A Big Thank You:  Our teachers worked today, August 31st.  Noodles generously provided a lunch for them.  It was delicious and our teachers really appreciated it.  The next time that you stop in at the Noodles just off of PD/McKee Farms Road please make a point to thank them.  They have supported and continue to support out school throughout the year and we all benefit from their kindness.

The September MyMenu fundraising opportunity is this Thursday, September 2nd.  From 9am – 8pm you can visit any MyMenu store, tell them your child attends Leopold and 10% of your purchase will come back to us as a donation.  Visit http://www.mymenu.com/ to see all they have to offer.

Winners of the great Leopold Sack Pack school supply giveaway will be announced at school this week.  We have 2 winners…a 5th grader and a new kindergarten student.  I'll let the suspense build some more but by Friday afternoon two of our kids will go home with a new bag filled with items to help make this a great year.  Thanks for playing!

September is Youth Soccer Month and you can help kick it off on Wednesday, September 1st from 4:30 – 7:00 pm at Leopold.  The Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association, UW Youth Soccer and the Madison Area Youth Soccer Association (MAYSA) are holding a festival right in our backyard.  Admission is free and there will be giveaways, small sided games, an obstacle course, the Milwaukee Wave mascot and more.  http://maysa.org/documents/ysmflier.pdf  en Español http://maysa.org/documents/ysmflier_spanish.pdf

Welcome Back

Welcome to the final full week of summer vacation!  It was great to see so many of you last week at registration.  For those of you who are new to Leopold – WELCOME!  We look forward to getting to know you over the next year.  The Leopold Parent Faculty Organization (PFO…or P-Fun-O as I like to call it) has many opportunities lined up this year that will give families a chance to step out and do what we do best – help our school!  More on that later…for now I would like to share some back-to-school information you are sure to enjoy.

First – a word from our Principal:

Greetings Leopold Parents and Family Members,

I am very pleased to report to you that after an exhaustive search, Abby Potter has been named as our new Leopold assistant principal.  Abby has had a variety of experiences in her career including five years as a teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in MMSD, administrator of a Saturday enrichment and tutoring program, and work in adult education.  Abby most recently worked as a Dual Immersion Planner for MMSD and has been involved in the DLI work here at Leopold.  Studies at UW-Madison has led Abby to a BS in Elementary Education, MS in Curriculum and Instruction, and a second MS in Education Leadership and Policy Analysis.  Abby is also currently working on a doctorate in Multicultural Education.

John Burkholder

Principal

Remember to log in to Infinite Campus on Monday, August 23rd beginning in the afternoon to check your child's class placement.  I'm sure everyone at your house is eager to learn which teacher is "yours" this year.  Let your kids know the wait is almost over…

Speaking of teachers, our own Mr. Dassler continues to shine.  Read more about his latest grant award at http://tinyurl.com/2444jqvCongratulation – science rocks!

Next weekend, August 27 – 29, is Leopold Weekend at Vitense Golfland.  You are invited to join the Leopold PFO at Vitense Golfland (http://www.vitense.com) as we say goodbye to summer and get ready for a new school year.  This is the first of our monthly P-FUN-O fundraising events.  When you visit Vitense next weekend, mention you are with Leopold Elementary and 15% of your purchases will come back to the PFO as a donation.  If you are staying in town next weekend why not spend some time at Vitense?  Hope to see you there!

If you're looking for something to do after golfing at Vitense next weekend, Sunday, August 29th is another Madison "Ride the Drive" celebration.  It is a free family event from 10am – 4pm.  Read more at http://www.cityofmadison.com/transportation/ridethedrive/

There are many new emails added to our ever growing distribution list.  This is a great way for the PFO to share timely information with parents.  Each address gathered on registration day was hand-typed so it is possible that a few emails will be returned undeliverable.  If you provided an email address at registration on the PFO school directory "blue sheet" and are reading this via the Leopold blog (http://leopoldelementary.blogspot.com), please send me an email so corrections can be made.  If you wish to be removed, let us know that too, although we hope you stay around for the P-FUN-O this year!

Fore!

Dog days of summer

Happy August! We've reached the "Sunday" of our summer break…you
know…that last month before school starts where you realize you
haven't seen the summer To Do list in weeks and there's no time to
look for it let alone accomplish any of it. Did anyone venture over to
Leopold this afternoon to have fun at the Art Cart? Me neither…that was
on my summer list...ugh… Relax…there's always winter break!

By now you should have received information in the mail about MMSD's
online enrollment which begins on Monday, August 9th. Read more about
it on the MMSD website at http://www.madison.k12.wi.us/node/7390 . You
will still need to come to registration at Leopold on Thursday, August
19th sometime between 11am and 6pm to complete your child's
registration, but you get can a head start by completing some of the
paperwork online in advance. Remember…be there or be square!

It's that time again – MyMenu Fundraising day! Tomorrow is the first of
many 1st Thursdays where your purchases can support Leopold. If you are
a MyMenu eRewards customer, visit any MyMenu store on Thursday, August
5th from 9am – 8pm, tell them your child attends Leopold and 10% of your
purchase will be donated to the school. Not an eRewards customer? You
can visit their website for more info.
http://www.mymenu.com/rewards.asp

Speaking of FUNd raisers, I hope you have August 27 – 29 marked with
bright colors or stickers or whatever it takes to help you remember
important dates. You are invited to join the Leopold PFO at Vitense
Golfland (http://www.vitense.com/) as we tee up another fabulous school
year. It is Leopold weekend at Vitense where 15% of your purchases will
come back to the PFO as a donation. Play some mini golf, hit a bucket
of balls at the driving range, have a snack, take a few swings at the
batting cages or try your hand at indoor boat racing. Whatever you
choose, mention you're with Leopold and have some fun! Hope to see you
there!

Attention all crafters…is anyone planning a trip to Michael's Craft
Store to purchase either a Cricut Expression or Yudu? If so, ask a
sales associate about their current promotion where they will donate one
of these items to the school of your choice. This promotion is going on
through the entire month of August.

The following information came from the MMSD information officer:

The last day...

Greetings on this final school night of the 2009-10 year!  Wow…I can't believe it's over…not only another school year but my daughter's elementary school career.  How quickly the time flies – one minute you're walking a 5-year-old wearing an oversized Hello Kitty backpack to the bus stop and the next thing you know you're sitting at graduation with a room full of stunned parents, wondering what had happened to that tiny kindergarten child.  Last night at graduation and again at the 5th grade picnic today I saw a group of kids who are definitely ready for middle school.  I guess I can't sneak back to kindergarten for a "do over" without someone taking notice.  Thank you Leopold staff past and present for helping them grow and learn.  High Fives all around!

Speaking of graduation, if you missed the ceremony or are curious what graduation is all about, you can watch it on FACTvFitchburg's cable access channel on Charter.  The video will be broadcast Friday, June 11 at 6:00 pm and again on Saturday, June 12 at 10:00 am on Charter digital channels 985, 986, and 987; analog channels are 95, 97 & 98

Hopefully you found your copy of the June PFO newsletter.  If you haven't seen it yet, it's probably somewhere in that stack of folders, notebooks, artwork and other miscellaneous papers that have come home in the last week.  Find it and hang it on your refrigerator so you remember all the ways you can help Leopold over the summer including:  use www.goodsearch.com and www.goodshop.com; shop Amazon using the link on http://leopoldpfo.org/; enter Coke Rewards at www.mycokerewards.com; sign up for a Target REDcard; clip Campbell's UPC codes; save Kemp's Milk Caps.  Thanks for all the ways you help PFO help Leopold kids.

One other piece of paper that came home is a Summer Break Box Tops collection sheet.  During the 2009-10 school year we redeemed over $1700 in Box Tops!  This is the largest amount in the last 3 years – THANK YOU to everyone who participated.  This is a very easy way to help our school and it's a great way to occupy the kids for a little bit over the summer.  Let the kids find and clip the box tops.  They can tape or glue them to either or both sides of the collection sheet or make a fun Box Tops collection "bank".  Whatever your method, please keep on clipping over the summer.

It may be June but it's never too early to think about the 2010 Timber Wolf Trample!  The Sponsor Campaign is underway and the PFO is looking for individuals or businesses that may be interested in sponsoring the 2010 event.  The names of ALL businesses, individuals or families who contribute $100 or more to the Sponsorship Campaign will be printed on the new Trample t-shirt.  If you have any suggestions, please forward contact information (business name, contact person, mailing address, phone) to Kris Aman at Kristin.d.aman@gmail.com or call her at 608 663-8128.  Save the date – Saturday, October 2nd – and start your training program early!

We hit a little bump in the road while producing "The Write Stuff", Leopold's literary magazine and it will not be distributed before school is out.  Editing and formatting are in progress and it should be printed by early summer.  We plan to distribute it either in person or by mail to our outgoing 5th graders as soon as it is finished so they can enjoy it before they start middle school.  Returning students will receive a copy at the beginning of next school year.  We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you or your family.

The PFO is planning several "Leopold Nights" next year and our first event is scheduled right before the start of school.  More details will be provided as we get closer to the event, but for now mark August 27, 28 & 29th as Leopold's Vitense Weekend.  Polish those putters and practice your swing so you'll be ready to play a round or two of putt-putt at the end of summer.  Fore!

Leopold may not be hosting summer school this year but the playground is not closed over the summer, so remember the new equipment when your kids starting chanting "there's nothing to do".  Maybe a mid-summer reunion at school with their school "peeps" is just what they need to get them through those lazy, hazy, crazy days of late July.  Bring popsicles and become the real cool parent!

Once a Timber Wolf always a Timber Wolf, but we realize that as kids move on to other schools you may not want to receive emails that no longer pertain to your family.  Please let us know if you would like your email address removed from our distribution list.  We will no longer include you in our email communications.  However, you are welcome to remain on the list if you want to stay in touch with your neighborhood school.  Feel free to share this email with other Leopold families who you know may not receive it…such as new Kindergarten parents for 2010-11.

Have a great summer and we'll be in touch!

Timber Wolf Trample Sponsor Campaign

The Timber Wolf Trample 2010 Sponsor Campaign is underway! Last year, local businesses and sponsoring Leopold families generously contributed more than $4,700 to Leopold's annual fun-run fundraiser. These critical funds enabled the PFO to meet a wide range of school, student, and teacher needs.

The 2010 Trample is scheduled for October 2nd. Do you know an individual or business that might be interested in sponsoring the 2010 event? The names of ALL businesses, individuals, or families that contribute $100 or more to the Sponsorship Campaign will be printed on the new Trample t-shirt. The PFO is requesting your help in identifying potential sponsors who might be interested in this opportunity.

If you have suggestions, please forward contact information (business name, contact person, mailing address, phone) to Kris Aman at kristin.d.aman@gmail.com or 608.663-8128. Thank you for your help!

Newz from the Prez

Happy Tuesday!  Can you believe it…one week from today is June 1st.  Where did the school year go?  I just uncovered some brand new school supplies I stashed away last August.  Good thing they don't turn green and get mushy...like leftovers…but that's another story.  It is a new week and some new info is coming your way.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to download the GoodSearch toolbar during their $5,000.00 giveaway!  The winner of our Leopold Amazon.com gift card is Deb Gilbert.  Congratulations Deb and thanks again to everyone who participated.  Happy Searching!

We're now officially enrolled in the Amazon School Rewards Program. You can begin shopping Amazon and earning money for Leopold by using the link/search box on our new PFO websitehttp://leopoldpfo.org/

Stay tuned for more information about the PFO website too.  It is a work in progress and will begin to take more shape as the days and weeks pass.

If you have a minute on Thursday, tune into the Brewers game on TV (isn't everything televised these days?).  Leopold Safety Patrol-ers and their chaperones will be at Miller Park cheering on the Brew Crew and celebrating an awesome year.  Go Team!

Have a great week.  See you at school!

News from the Prez...

Happy Monday!  It looks like we have a beautiful spring week ahead of us – a nice reward after a step back to early April weather last week.

At last Tuesday's PFO meeting Jolen Neumann mentioned how you can support Leopold by searching or shopping the internet.  Below is more information on this program…thanks Jolen!

Did you know that Leopold can earn a donation every time you search the Internet? Or that a percentage of every purchase you make online can go to our school as well? Well, it can!

GoodSearch.com is a new Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up!

GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall which donates up to 30 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause! Hundreds of great stores including Amazon, Target, Gap, Best Buy, eBay, Macy's and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with GoodShop and every time you place an order, you'll be supporting Leopold!

If 100 of us used GoodSearch.com to search the Internet 2x's/day for a year, we could earn $730.00 for Leopold school.  If 1,000 of us did the exact same thing, we could earn $7300.00 for our school.  Add in percentages from shopping online through GoodShop.com and imagine what we could do for Leopold.

To access Good Search.com simply go to http://www.goodsearch.com/default.aspx and type in Leopold Elementary School under Who Do you Goodsearch For?  Then begin your websearch just as you normally do.

Before you begin any online shopping, go to the GoodShop.com portal http://www.goodsearch.com/goodshop.aspx , make sure you've denoted Leopold as your charity of choice, search for the store you'd like to purchase from and begin shopping.

It's a simple way for us to earn money for Leopold with something we all do at least a few times a day.  Spread the word...the more people that GoodSearch and GoodShop for Leopold, the more money we can make!

Math and Science night for grades 3-5 is tomorrow night, May 18th from 6:30 – 8:00pm.  Kids and adults can participate in a variety of activities and learn a new game at the same time.  I guess its time to answer the question…Are you smarter than a 5th grader?

See you at school!
